Oregon Travel Experience participates in state employees toy drive
We all know what a mad dash of stress the holidays can bring: pressures to shop, prepare big meals and host out-of-town guests. Most of us weather the additional activity pretty well—agreeing that happy young faces are a major part of what the season is truly about. However, many children face the prospect of no joy during the holidays, particularly those whose parents are struggling with joblessness or other issues that may even present as homelessness.
Although OTE employees give throughout the year by volunteering with youth or community groups and donating a percentage of their paychecks to other causes, they really go into high gear for the holiday toy drive. For the last two months, the Salem staff munched on cookies, breads and other homemade carbs to raise money for toys. They also went on their own shopping expeditions and brought unwrapped bounty back to the office.
After a few pounds had been gained (New Year’s resolutions are just around the corner), over $225 added even more toys to the pile in front of the OTE holiday tree. The toys purchased by OTE staff were then delivered to the State Capitol Building in Salem, where all toy contributions by state employees will be loaded onto distribution trucks today.
Thank you to all of the staff that made this year’s toy drive a success.
