10th Mountain Division Memorial Grove

Posted on: September 23rd, 2011 by Madeline MacGregor in Heritage Tree Details | 8 Comments

This grove of mixed trees species was started as a memorial for Oregon members of the 10th Mountain Division who fought in Italy during WWII. They were the only US Army Division trained in mountain warfare and were trained to fight on skis.

In 1996 the first tree in this memorial grove was planted. The grove is maintained by descendants and discharged members of the 10th Mountain Division.

My father, Woodrow Stone, was 10th Mountain Infantry, WWII. I am interested in finding out how to contact the local chapter regarding the memorial grove. My Dad was very active in the local group, thought he passed away in 1989. I’d like to find out about having a tree planted in the grove in his memory. I look forward to someone contacting me. Thanks, Andrea

I will pass your message along to our Heritage Program’s administrator. She is on vacation right now, but will return on July 22. Please look for a personal response from Annie Von Domitz. Glad you found us!

I saw the news story today 5/7/14 about the flag being stolen from the 10th Mountain Division Memorial near North Plains. Can I help pay for a replacement? Or have another tree planted at the site? Although now deceased, my father, Jim Baney was a member of the 10th Mountain Division. I would like to honor him in some way for his participation in this WWII fighting group.
