Oregon Travel Experience encourages sponsorship for historical markers. Markers are designed to entice motorists to stop and explore the state’s diverse regional history, culture and geology. Potential sites include public parks, and welcome centers and rest areas along major highways and I-5.
Traveling to experience other people’s landscapes, history and way of life is an important, growing aspect of visiting new places. The markers help preserve an area’s unique history and character and at the same time, help boost local economies by bringing motorists off the highway and into local communities.
Sponsorship is open to businesses, foundations, non-profits, and public agencies. OTE encourages communities to work collaboratively to sponsor a marker in their region or sub-region.
Narrative text and graphics are developed with oversight from the OTE Historical Marker Committee and other experts in Oregon history.
